WHAT TO EXPECT

Dialogue Experience aims to raise awareness about blindness and sight loss. We believe that empathy comes from experience and honest conversation. We hope this experience will help us all overcome false sympathy, prejudice, and stereotyping. In “Darkness,” curiosity replaces ignorance, and lack of understanding transforms into empathy.

What would it be like to navigate the London cityscape without sight? Dialogue Experience is a 40-minute collaborative immersive experience exploring daily life exclusively through the senses of touch, taste, smell, and sound. With the help of a white cane and guide with sight loss, you will learn to see in a new way...in the dark.

As you travel through our experience, a familiar landscape emerges, composed solely of sound, scent, wind, and texture. You’ll explore a park, a city block, and a cafe, learning to enjoy and appreciate these experiences without sight. Your guide provides security, comfort, and direction, while at the same time helping you to “see” the world without sight. In the end, you’ll emerge with a new perspective and appreciation of how others navigate this complex world.

Students will be in the darkness for about sixty minutes with their guide. Both before and after the exhibition, our team will engage students in activities and discussions to deepen their experience, answer any questions they have, and stimulate critical thinking about their senses and social inclusion.
